Reminiscing Speak and Spell

Every Sunday, the Design Museum in London hosts #FontSunday on Twitter for font lovers to have a good discussion about fonts. The themes are different every week.

Recently the theme was on Electronic Display Fonts. This reminded us of one of our favourite toys from our childhood the “Speak & Spell”. It was our favourite accessory that we will always carry on our arms ( more than we would with a handbag ).

So glad to have found a Speak and Spell emulator online, and it has the same electronic synthesised voice. It’s so cool. The emulator is developed by Jake Smith, based on the original iconic toy developed by Texas Instrument. Try it yourself and play this retro toy Speak and Spell toy online.

P.S. This emulator seems to only work on Safari.

A Dancing Silly Sausage Illustration

The weather is going bonkers. Barbecue smells in February. Our silly sausage has decided to do a dance.

P.S. According to research by The Independent, the British loves talking about the weather. The average British person will spend four and half months of their life talking about weather.

Some Very Stylish Typography For 2019

This is our kind of type. Bold, striking, beautiful font. This “What to Expect in 20109” type illustration is created by London based designer / illustrator Charles Williams that runs studio Made Up for an editorial piece for Delta Sky Magazine. Love!

Photographs of Mini-Me - Like Owner Like Dog

We have long believed that dogs and their owners are look-alikes and vice versa. This collection of photos by renowned British animal portrait photographer Gerrard Gethings just proof it. This fun set of photographs pairs the dog owners with their owners, totes doggelgängers! We love it! Woof!

Hungry for Mondrian Bento Box

We love bento boxes - a lunch box filled with normally the freshest combination of ingredients of the day to create the most scrummy meal. Normally it will include a combination of savoury dishes and a small dessert together within the lunch box.

Here, we are absolutely hungry for this bento box created by Yum Tang, a visual designer / food photographer in Beijing, China. As part of her collaboration with the IBM Thinkpad laptop, she has created a colour rich quirky and fun Mondrian colour Bento lunch box to be displayed onto the laptop.

The Mondrian bento box contains ingredients from that are vibrant in colours, from bright red watermelon, coral orange salmon to contrasting white noodles and rice along with some purple sweet potatoes all neatly lined up in a mondrian styled square and rectangle shaped cubicles within the lunch box.

Based on the shapes of the ingredients in the Bento box, we love how Yum has utilised the shapes and colours of the ingredients and translated them to digital prints.

We are so hungry for it both in colour and taste.

Fashion In Paper Cut Style

With London Fashion Week in town, the new Christian Dior exhibition and the Great British sewing bee back on the telly box, plenty of fashion events happening around in London. This reminds us of a very beautifully made series of paper sculptures made by paper artist Matthew Sporzynski that is focussed on objects related to fashion, couture, handbag and shoes for magazine Real Simple. J’adore.
